What is Guided Meditation?

Guided meditation can feel like a reset for the brain, much like a computer. Our brain's job is to produce thoughts, however sometimes when they are racing like a runaway train it becomes challenging to relax and feel a sense of calmness. Through guided meditation, Tressie helps you focus on finding that still small voice from within so you can slow down, relax, de-stress, increase mindfulness, de-clutter thoughts and engage your calming nervous system. Unlike traditional meditation where you are alone with your thoughts that may drift away thinking about this and that, Tressie is there to guide your meditation practice in a way that helps train your brain so you can experience the many benefits and enjoy the inner peace that can help remove accumulated life stressors and improve overall health and well-being.

In today's society our automatic fight/flight/freeze response, called the sympathetic nervous system, is constantly being triggered which keeps us in a state of unrest and heightened anxiety. One way to turn the sympathetic nervous system off is by turning our calming, or parasympathetic nervous system on through meditation. They both can't be activated at the same time so turning off one automatically turns on the other.  Spending time in a state of calmness can have an overall positive effect on one's well-being resulting in feeling grounded, peaceful, centered and rejuvenated. It also helps create new neural pathways so it becomes easier to access a feeling of calmness over time with regular practice.

A Word About Meditation from The Mayo Clinic

"Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. You can also use it to relax and cope with stress by refocusing your attention on something calming. Meditation can help you learn to stay centered and keep inner peace. And these benefits don't end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions." If you do have a medical condition that is made worse by stress, meditation may help, however it is important to talk to your medical care provider first to get their recommendation about the effects that meditation may have on your medical condition.
